St Joe Walkway Palm Coast is one of my favorite places to get out on my bike and enjoy some of the natural beauty we have right here in town. It’s peaceful, scenic and gives you a completely different view of Palm Coast than you get driving around our neighborhoods and main roads.
My typical ride is about five miles round trip from the parking area, which makes it a great ride when I want to get outside and get some exercise without turning it into an all-day event.
Biking the St. Joe Walkway in Palm Coast
One of the things I enjoy most about this ride is how quickly the scenery changes.
There are sections surrounded by palms, large oak trees and plenty of shade, along with stretches where the trail opens up to beautiful views of the water. The paved path makes it comfortable for biking, but it’s just as enjoyable if you want to walk and take your time.

Some of my favorite sections are underneath the huge oak trees. With the branches stretching across the trail and Spanish moss hanging overhead, this is the kind of scenery that reminds you you’re definitely in old Florida.
Water, Boats and the Occasional Dolphin
The water is probably my favorite part of the ride.
There are several places where I’ll slow down or stop for a minute and watch the boats go by. And every once in a while, you get a bonus: dolphins.
You obviously can’t count on seeing them every ride, but spotting dolphins in the water while you’re out riding your bike is one of those little Palm Coast moments that’s hard to beat.

The wooden bridges and boardwalk sections also add some variety to the ride and make for some great places to stop for a photo.

A Five-Mile Ride That Doesn’t Feel Like Exercise
My usual route works out to roughly five miles round trip from the parking area. It’s enough distance to get a good ride in, but between the shade, water views, boats and wildlife, it doesn’t feel like you’re just riding somewhere to rack up miles.
That’s one of the reasons I keep coming back.
Carlos’ Local Take on St. Joe Walkway
What I like about St Joe Walkway Palm Coast is that it represents a part of living here that doesn’t always show up in real estate photos. It’s one of many recreation area managed by the city of Palm Coast.
Palm Coast isn’t only about the houses, beaches and golf courses. We have miles of trails, waterways and places like this where you can get outside and enjoy where we live.
If you’re new to Palm Coast, thinking about moving here, or you’ve lived here for years and somehow haven’t explored this trail, I’d put St. Joe Walkway on your list.
And keep an eye on the water. 🐬 You never know who might be swimming alongside your ride.
